Healthy Cauliflower Pizza Recipe
If you’ve been anywhere near a foodie or paleo guru in the last few months, there’s a good chance you’ll know about the infamous cauliflower pizza. And while I must say I was very skeptical of the idea at first, after trying a slice, I’m hooked. Of course, there’s nothing like sinking your teeth into a cheesy, thin-based pizza from your favourite pizza spot, BUT this is a healthy (much healthier) alternative that can satisfy that pizza craving any day of the week. Unfortunately, most cauliflower recipes out there pack the bases with cheese, making it a not-so-healthy alternative. But because we love you and care about your health, we’ve searched high and low for the perfect cheese-less crust recipe.
- A head of cauliflower
- A food processor or blending device
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (crush it even more between your fingers)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons almond flour
- 1 tablespoon (or more if desired) nutritional yeast- this is optional but it does help with the binding process
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg
Place the cauliflower into the food processor until the cauliflower becomes a powdery texture. Place the ground cauliflower into a microwave safe bowl and cover it. Microwave or about 3 to 4 minutes and then put the cauliflower into a tea towel and wring out the best part of the moisture.
Add the floury cauliflower into a bowl and mix in all the other ingredients. Shape your pizza crust onto an oiled piece of baking paper and place it into the oven for about 12 minutes or until golden brown. Then add your desired toppings onto the pizza and put it in the oven for another five minutes.
We love basil, tomato, mozzarella and chorizo toppings.
Let your creation cool down for a few minutes and then gently cut the pizza into slices. Be careful when dishing and picking up your slice as it won’t hold together as well as a normal pizza base.
